At 18 this person is really an adult. ESL is very tricky. Idoms abound in the English language. I cannot imagine how much of Dahl they understand. Reading at a Grade six level is very good but you need to look at comprehension. Books with very realistic plots might be better than fantasy (Dahl) or humour.
