I'm beginning with the The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek because the cover is based on our Australian Coat of Arms which could be a great starting point for your lesson.
I thought I would just list a few favourite Australian picture books today - books with an Aussie flavour. I could also have added books that feature our unique flora and fauna such as the kookaburra; platypus; wombat; and kangaroo and also some of our special Christmas books with an Australian perspective.
Colours of Australia by Bronwyn Bancroft
Mulga Bill's Bicycle by Banjo Paterson
This is not a picture book but it is such a fun read aloud and I just wanted to mention it because it is very old and has probably been long forgotten but if you can find this book in your library grab it and read it.
