The Hug Machine by Scott Campbell

Right now we cannot give or receive hugs!  When we had our first lock down here in Sydney due to Covid-19 the idea of not receiving any hugs was something that hit me pretty hard. In fact writing about this here tonight I am feeling quite teary. The touch of another human is so important to each of us - I miss hugs!

"I am very good at hugging. The best at hugging. No one can resist my unbelievable hugging. I am the hug machine!"

After a huge day of hugging everyone and everything there is just one thing the Hug Machine himself needs - yes you've guessed it a huge HUG from his mum!

The end papers for this book are simply a DELIGHT.  The opening ones are a checklist of people and objects to hug and on the final end paper everything has been ticked off.

A real keeper. Share it with your own resident hug machine today. SLJ Elizabeth Bird

The story rests on a simple string of hugs and one plucky little hero doing his part to make the world a better place. In his first outing as an author, Campbell shines. Kirkus Star review

Do you remember this hug? It's one of the best picture books hugs it comes at the end of Corduroy in the book yes, but also in the Weston Woods film.

Here are some other picture books about hugs.  This could be a fun mini theme for a preschool or Kindergarten group:

My friend at Kinderbookswitheverything shares her favourite books about hugs. January 21st is National Hugging Day (UK and USA).
