Some Pets by Angela DiTerlizzi illustrated by Brendan Wenzel

Here is the perfect book for your preschool animal lover. Super simple rhyming text presented using an appealing font but it is the illustrations that take this joyous celebration to another level. I also love the way every animal is collected on the last page:

From the publisher:

Some pets sit.

Some pets stay.

Some pets fetch,

And some pets play.

Come one, come all, to the pet show! With dogs and cats, horses and chickens, hamsters and chinchillas—and many, many more!—this book celebrates animal companions of all shapes and sizes. Who will take home the coveted Best in Show ribbon? Join the fun to find out!

You can see a poster for the book and some activities here.

DiTerlizzi’s spare, rhyming words give structure to Wenzel’s kaleidoscopic illustrations, which in their turn amply adorn the minimalist text. Kirkus

Some Pets was published in 2016. It is still available but sadly only as an expensive hardcover edition which here in Australia is over $32. Hope there are plans to produce this book in a more affordable paperback edition. The companion volume by Angela DiTerlizzi and Brendan Wenzel is Some bugs.
