Little Bear's Big House by Benjamin Chaud
Little Bear is the older brother of Teeny Tiny Bear. He is restless. It's time for an adventure just like the ones "little boys" enjoy. Little Bear heads off to explore the forest. He meets lots of forest friends such as squirrels, wolves, rabbits and a fox family but he is not interested in any of them! He is sure a better adventure awaits. At the end of the forest he finds a huge house.
"Little boys live in houses and they can go wherever they want! After all, the front door is ready to be opened."
So he steps inside and boy, oh boy does he have such fun exploring this house from top to bottom including opening the toilet! Little Bear tries on clothes, plays with the toys and romps on the bed. He is like Goldilocks on steroids. BUT then he hears a BANG! Oh no it is a terrible monster with three heads, large teeth and huge claws. Little Bear dives out an open window and runs home as quickly as he can.
Oddly at home his father seems badly out of breath and his little brother - Teeny Tiny Bear - has his own story to tell about a big house and a gigantic, pink polka-dotted ghost!
This is a large format book that is filled with tiny visual jokes that are sure to delight young children and their adult companions.
On the subject of leaving home and freedom to explore away from mum and dad I would pair this book with Ivanhoe Swift left home at Six.
There are four books in this series by Benjamin Chaud. Here are the others. The Bear's Song (2013); The Bear's sea escape (2014): The Bear's Surprise (2015).
Little Bear's Big House is translated from the French picture book Pompon ours dans les bois.
