Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds - exploring short listed book creators

This is my third post for the 2021 Book Week celebration. In this post I will focus on the body of work of the Authors and Illustrators who are featured in the Early Childhood Picture Book short list.

My first post listed some links and display ideas and in my second Book Week post I shared some ideas for Book Week challenges.

Sarah Allen Busy Beaks

Busy Beaks is Sarah's first title as author/illustrator.

Here is an interview with Sarah where you can see many examples of her art. Previously she illustrated these:

Bernadette Green and Anna Zobel Who's your real mum?

Anna is the illustrator of the Little Gem series.

Libby Hathorn and Mel Pearce with Lisa Hathorn-Jarman No Never

Read more about Libby Hathorn who received the Lady Cutler award this year. Check out my posts about The Wonder Thing; and A soldier, a dog and a boy.

Libby's most famous book is The Tram to Bondi Beach which was Highly Commended in 1982. In past years her junior novels were also short listed by the CBCA - Paolo's Secret; All about Anna and Harriet and Christopher and Me; Looking out for Sampson; and The Extraordinary magics of Emma McDade. I have fond memories of sharing these with various classes long ago.

Anna McGregor Anemone is not the enemy

Anna McGregor is the author/illustrator of three books. Her first was Colouroos. A pair of pears and an orange is her newest book.

Heidi McKinnon There's no such thing

Heidi McKinnon comes from Melbourne and she is the author illustrator of four books. In this video Heid reads her short listed book - There's no such thing.

Briony Stewart We love you Magoo

The sequel to We love you Magoo - Where are you Magoo? is due for publication in early August, 2021. Bedtime Sorted is due out in late July. Briony Stewart's book The Red Wheelbarrow is a title in the IBBY Silent books collection. This is a huge honour for an Australian book creator.
