Forgotten series - a list

Beetle Boy and Beetle Queen

The Legend of Podkin One-Ear and sequels

This question was posed on a Facebook group today:

What's your favourite (or your kid's favourite) underrated series for kids – junior fiction or middle grade? The kind of series that just doesn't seem to get the kind of attention you think it deserves. The one you recommend to everyone you've ever met.  (YKNR Allison Tait)

I was able to mention a few you can see at the start of this post before the comments were closed. Sadly, I am not allowed to share a link this post, but I wanted to collate some the terrific ideas! Hopefully you will discover a series you have forgotten and find a new one to explore. Here is the list made by Allison Tait. We have eight series in common. Her list has an Australian focus, and links take you to an online bookseller. Between the two lists I hope you find a terrific series to explore. Many from my list are out of print so visit your local library and school library.

Here are some of the suggestions from the Facebook group:

Halfmen of O; Priests of Ferris and Motherstone by New Zealand author Maurice Gee

A Pinch of Magic; A Sprinkle of Sorcery; A Tangle of Spells; A Storm of Sisters by Michelle Harrison

At the Sign of the Sugared Plum; Petals in the Ashes by Mary Hooper

The Travelling Bookshop - There are four books in the series by Katrina Nannestad

First Test by Tamora Pierce

Ottilie Colter and the Narroway Hunt; Ottilie Colter and the Master of Monsters
by Rhiannon Williams

I love both Little Fur and the red wind series and recommend them to students all the time. I have the Hazel series in my TBR pile for summer.

You are sure to enjoy Hazel Green. I long to taste a chocolate dipper one day!
