Meet the illustrator Beatrice Alemagna from Italy

In this series of posts I am featuring the work of some illustrators nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for 2022. Here is the 36 page dossier for Beatrice where you can see a list of all her books; awards; book reviews; and many illustrations.

About Beatrice AlemagnaBeatrice Alemagna, who grew up in Bologna and now lives in Paris, has created about thirty books which have been published all around the world. Her long list of accolades include the Premio Andersen Award, a Bologna Ragazzi Mention, five White Ravens Awards and three Baobab Prizes for the most innovative books for children.

Here is an interview with Beatrice where she talks about her book The Marvellous Squishy Fluffy Itty Bitty. And this interview with The Comics Journal Beatrice shares her ideas about working with art and text.

Here are some books by Beatrice which I have previously discussed on this blog:

(In America this book is called The Wonderful Fluffy Little Squishy)

You can see more books in many languages on Beatrice's own web page. And here are some other books by Beatrice Alemagna which are sure to be in a library:

Book Depository blurb: A Lion in Paris is widely regarded as the most accomplished book by multi-award-winning children's author/illustrator Beatrice Alemagna. It tells the story of a lion who, bored by his rural life in the savannah, seeks excitement and opportunity in the city of light. On arrival in Paris the lion is disappointed to find that despite his size, people barely pay attention to him, not even when he lets out a ferocious roar on the busy Metro. Taking in the sights and sounds of Paris this beautifully illustrated book successfully conveys the experience of being a stranger in a new city and the process of understanding our own identity. Read the Kirkus review.

Listen here to learn how to say her name.

I wish I could read French - then I would grab this book by Astrid Lindgren (1958) illustrated by Beatrice:
