Alette Straathof was born and raised in a small town in The Netherlands. Alette received a BFA in Illustration and minored in Gamification at the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2016. Her illustrations are colourful, happy and are drawn in a naive style. Mixing different analogue materials such as watercolour, Indian ink and colour pencils, she creates playful paintings that make people smile and provokes good vibes. Here is an image Australian children will recognise from One World Many Colours:
When my friend and I visited a large public library here in Sydney this week I spied a book on display by this illustrator - Alette Straathof. Her named intrigued me. Visiting the school library where I volunteer each week I found another book with her illustrations - One Moment in Time.
By chance I recently purchased another wonderful book about time - All in a day - a personal favourite. It would be fabulous to read these two books together to compare the way the authors explain the mysteries of time around the world.
I also found this title about Captain James Cook (9781911625667) at Waterstones but it doesn't seem to be widely available here in Australia which is odd because this book is one I am sure every school library would love to see. I did find one supplier.
Alette Straathof also did the art for The Climbers which is a title from the Colour Fiction series but sadly this title is now out of print.

Shall we put her on the illustration list as someone to keep our eye on?
Yes but we might need to make a supplementary list - and split our list because we have SO many names now.
