The Walk by Celia Sacido

A dog and her owner are out for a walk when they see a large blue stick. The dog picks up the stick and it is easy to see she expects her owner to throw it. The stick goes sailing through the air. It is chased by the dog and also a small bird. A tug of war ensues - dog versus bird. There is no way this small bird can lift this large stick but the little bird has a surprise. She has a team of helpers - her flock. They are hiding in a field of yellow flowers. The little bird picks a flower and offers it to the dog in exchange for the stick. You will remember the man threw that stick for the dog to fetch. For the dog to fetch and return? I wonder what he might be thinking when his dog returns, not with that blue stick, but with a large yellow flower.

Sacido has done a masterful job of inviting focus and showing movement with splashes of color, changes in texture, and the judicious use of motion lines in her compositions. ... A satisfying, uplifting discovery. Kirkus Star review

Here is another wonderful 'silent' or wordless book. I talked about Aquarium a couple of days ago.

Celia Sacido is an author and illustrator. She was born in Madrid in 1984 but grew up in Segovia, Spain. She studied direction and realisation of animated films in several schools in Madrid and France. Back in Madrid, she is trained as a bookbinder and carried out different studies and a masters in literature for children and book publishing. Publisher author profile

I need to also mention the end papers of The Walk which show (front) the arrival of the flock of birds all flying left to right and  then we see (back) the whole flock flying away.
