Her transcendent, large-scale compositions do indeed suggest a night when all is calm, all is bright. Publishers Weekly
Silent Night is the classic Christmas carol. This book includes the music. This book was republished in 2003 and so it is out of print but if the publisher does decide to reprint I would love to see additional pages about the origins of Silent Night along with the words in German. You can read more about the carol and also hear several different versions here.
There are three verses from the carol in this book:
Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright. 'Round yon Virgin Mother and Child, Holy Infant so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight! Glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ, the Savior is born, Christ, the Savior is born.
Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love's pure light. Radiant beams from thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace. Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
Here are some other beautiful books illustrated by Susan Jeffers. I think all school libraries should own one or two of her books because the art is truly special.
It would be good to link this book with Christmas in the Trenches and Shooting at the Stars - The Christmas Truce of 1914.

My favourite Susan Jeffers is Robert Frost's poem Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening, which is also appropriate for this time of the year because of the snow and the only colours she uses in it are red and green with the black and white.
