A little bit Brave by Nicola Kinnear

Your friend is brave. You are not. Your friend likes to go outside and experience adventures. You like to stay inside and do comforting things such as bake biscuits. Things go wrong. Your friend seems upset with you. It's difficult to concentrate or complete simple tasks because you keep wondering and worrying about your friend who has left after angry words.

These are the dilemmas faced by Logan. His friend Luna is the daring one. On the first page there are paintings of all her adventures. Meanwhile Logan is enjoying his knitting and warm cup of tea inside. Eventually Luna decides she just has to go outside. Logan is just too scared.

"Sometimes, Logan, you just have to be a little brave!' shouted Luna. And she stomped out."

When Luna does not return Logan is forced to face his fear and head OUTSIDE. He packs some important things into his bag - a snorkel, a torch, a tin of biscuits and a scarf.

I do enjoy stories where objects are useful in the plot. Logan needs the snorkel when he dives into the river looking for Luna, he needs the scarf to hold on while riding a deer through the forest, and his torch is essential as he tiptoes into a cave.

There is one more thing in his bag - his tin of freshly made biscuits. Logan finds Luna - she is about to be eaten by a huge, hungry wolf! Can the biscuits (and Logan) save the day?

Just a thought - is it important that the fearful homebody is a boy and the adventurous fearless character is a girl?  Also I like the way their names are Luna and Logan because Lapin is another word for rabbit. This is just my random thought. Luna Lapin and Logan Lapin could be their names.

Nicola Kinnear has some colouring pages on her web site which also has details of her many other books.
